Though Santorini was beautiful, it was a little bit overwhelming with so many tourists and selfie sticks everywhere. My favorite was walking around Santorini right at sunrise; Oia was practically empty! Folegandros was the most authentic experience mainly because most of the people we encountered were older locals and they spoke mainly Greek.

This is a ship that was built in 1991, that can accommodate 700 passengers and 75 vehicles, and that’s 243 feet long. The ferry was supposed to depart at 8:00AM and arrive at 9:50AM.

On the warmest days, the Santorini temperature in December and January can reach up to as high as 20C, although the mid to high teens are more likely. Even cloudy days are ideal for heading out for a walk.
We're thinking about going to Santorini on Sunday and returning Monday. I'm not really sure it is warm enough in March to worry about the beach. We're mostly interested in seeing the white-washed buildings and relaxing. What's making this complicated is a) no high speed ferries appear to run in March, so ferry time is too long for our short trip.

Knowing that Santorini is such an ideal place, we are curious about staying for 2 vs 3 nights and where on the island is the best spot or most bang for the buck, what experiences are worth it? We want to have a beautiful memorable experience, but know it can be a tourist trap, so just unsure if worth it to just stay is Oia or Fira for the sake

There is supposed to be good diving around Santorini I've heard. I've been to Santorini, and it is staggeringly beautiful, but it's a small island --and very steep--and outside of eating and drinking and looking around there isn't a whole lot to do. There's a quick boat trip to the adjacent volcano caldera..just not a lot to Santorini.

May 18, 2023 · Santorini has more top-notch tours. Both have wineries and great local food. Crete has better beaches but they’re spread out and it takes a fair bit of effort to see the best beaches. Santorini is small and it’s easy to get around to all the popular beaches. Crete has more small traditional (non-touristy) villages.
Taxes and fees were $5.60 total. Spending 2.5 days in Athens, 3 days in Naxos, 3 days in Santorini, and 2 days in Amsterdam before flying AMS-PHL-RDU on AA in J. Taxes and fees were like $60/pp. Flights between the islands were cheap. As for hotels, getting anything on points was difficult.
Disembarkation is hit or miss. Early tenders, you have maybe 2 per trip, and if you are on an excursion it makes no difference. Free breakfast room service, normally a $9.95 charge for hot meals, plus 20%, but continental is already free. Problem is guest services still charges you because the wording is vague, so you will waste time getting
I stayed 3 nights at a luxury IHG resort recently, had a mishap due to an employee at the resort, and subsequently complained via the hotel survey. The hotel took ~2 weeks to respond, ultimately offering me 25k points, worth ~$100 when the resort costs ~$2K per night. In short, I'm a younger female who chose to go back to my room separately
Santorini is also wine country, so if you like wine, I suggest purchasing a wine tour. Overall, the island is difficult to get around. If you have any mobility issues, it’s next to impossible, as most of the towns are built on cliffsides, and you have to go up and down stairs just to get through the town (Oia, in particular).
